Risk assessment- Molly Curtis
Potential Hazard
|
Who is at risk
|
Prevention methods
|
Risk potential (Likelihood)
|
The camera could get wet when filming outside within the woods and
then could give an electric shot
|
Molly
|
A way to prevent this method is by covering the camera with a bag or
a camera cover to avoid the camera from getting wet
|
Medium as the English weather is unpredictable
|
Tripping over a branch or hitting your head on branches.
|
Mason
|
Make sure pathways are clear and there are not hazards for when the
character runs through the woods
|
Medium
|
The swing potentially breaking or a character falling off the swing
|
Molly
|
Make sure that the swing is firmly in place and that you are
responsible whilst on the swing
|
Low
|
The public may be disturbed by what we are doing and may not be happy
with what we are doing in a public woods
|
Mason, Molly, Theo
|
Make sure that there are no members of the public nearby when we are
filming or we can inform any citizens within the area with what are doing
|
Low
|
Attacked by a dog or a fellow citizen as we are in a public wood
|
Mason, Molly, Theo
|
Make sure that dogs are going to be on leads and another way to prevent this is by
if we come in contact with a dog we will not stroke it

Research into logos
There are many small production companies that work within the major studios. Due to the genre of our film being a horror we plan on making a logo that is similar to other horror logos. For this I'll look at production companies that just produce horror films and make a logo that is like them.
Blumhouse productions is one of the biggest and most successful horror production companies with producing films such as Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious and Sinister. They have made The Insidious and Sinister franchises from just £15,000 budgets and they've made a world wide gross of $200 million world wide. They have made a massive 1.2 billion US Dollars world wide. (Source from http://blumhouse.com/about.php)
Ghost house is also a successful production company. They've produced more classical horror films such as The Grudge and The Boogeyman. Two similarities between these logos are that they are both very dark and have neutral text but are both quite faded. The Ghost house pictures logo contains a skull which could be seen as a classic horror convention. They produce more 'classic' horror films in the way their films are made, the skull shows that the company must specialise in horror films.
For our 2 minute clip we'll use a logo similar to the both of these, it'll have a black background with faded text and a we'll possibly have some sort of horror item in the background such as a knife.

Screen play
In our film we didn't include any dialogue as we thought it wold create a lot more suspense. Molly was the sound editor and chose the copy right free music off various websites, she chose a peaceful track for the beginning of the film which was the sound of the wind blowing and birds tweeting, then to build suspense she chose a more dramatic track when Bella is seen. We used other noises for example a twig snapping which we created our self.
Mason O'Neil Producer & co-editor
In the production of our main task the roles that I have been allocated is being the groups producer and the groups co-director. the roles that I am going to be fulfilling throughout this production is going to be organising the days of the shoot and contribute to the filming process as well as working with the other group members on editing the production , whilst including a rough cut and a final version. also I will be working with audience test sheets for animatic, rough cut and the film opening. I will be using my knowledge to allow me to peruse these tasks and hopefully achieve a good end result with my group when completing our 2 minute film opening.

Michael Wohl- language of film
Close up – Close up to see what characters are, or what they are looking at
Medium shot – Medium distance shows variety of activities that character is doing
Medium long shot/Long shot/Wide shot – Long shot is a good way to show where the location of the scene is
Extreme Long shot – to show the time (sun rises)
Extreme close shot – to show why (close up of the character’s thought going through his or her face)
Medium Close up – could be used to see how ( pulling a trigger)
Over the shoulder – show how characters are talking to each other
Full Shot – contains whole human body
Medium Shot – above knees
Medium Close-up – above chest
The Close up – above shoulder
The Extreme Close up – usually a feature on the face for example eye, mouth etc
Establishing shots – shows location and how the environment , setting is
Reaction shots – close-ups of a specific performance, showing a subject’s reaction
Cut away – shots of dogs at park even though we might have never seen before
Point of View – what actors are looking at
Cutting on Action – another continuity term – matching eye lines and speed are helpful to achieve continuity
180 degree rule – don’t cross the lines so viewers are confused of where the directions are
who?
For example a close up for example would be used to show the character's emotion so the audience understand the feeling of that character. in our film we can use a close up of the male character to show his fear towards the young girl.
The extreme long shot would be used so the audience understand the setting and they know exactly where the character is at the scene. we can use an extreme long shot in our film when the man runs into the forest as the audience will realise that the man has ruin into the haunted area of the forest.
An extreme long shot is used to show just one feature of a characters face for example, the eye of the character so the audience can see their emotion. we can use this when we focus on the girls face to show she is extremely angry with the man and wants to hurt him.

Molly Curtis- Writer and cinematographer
In my groups 2 minute film opening I have the roles of being the writer and cinematographer. which means I am in charge of shot list, animatic storyboard, equipment list, skills progress, location shots. I will be responsible for cinematography using planning materials as a guide. We will all create an audience feedback sheet for the rough cut and final film opening to get advice on how to improve the production, we will create this as a team. The roles have been handed out equally so everyone has the chance to help out during the filming process, this is good because no one has more roles than another person so everyone can help each other out and us team members will not feel stressed or pressurized. I enjoy my roles as I am a very creative person and think I can do my roles very well and to my best ability, Mason and Theo also enjoy their chosen roles. we have decided that we will all decided to participate in the editing of the film as we all need more confidence so doing this together will help. I was also the composer editor and sound editor, which meant i chose the music with help from Mason and i edited the film on my own. Theo created the production logos and i edited them into the film because, i already had a lot of roles to finish. I was also the technical director and chose what equipment we will need fr the filming process.
Molly Curtis 9 frame analysis of a horror film- sinister
1
2 . In this scene a medium long shot has been used to show exactly where the man is and gives the audience a clear understanding of this. The camera angle has zoomed in a little to show what the man is looking at; this will help the audience understand more about the scene. The longshot has been used also, so the audience can fully understand this scene and see what’s going on. The character is dressed in casual clothing and the props are the box he is searching in and another box next to it. The lighting of this is very dim which links to the typical conventions of a horror film. This is just before something ‘scary’ happens, so the lighting is to prepare the audience. The scene is also set in the attic which typically the place where most horrific things take place in a horror film.
3 In the next scene we can see the camera angle used is medium close up, having the shot close up really shows us the characters face expression so we know how the character is feeling, in the scene. The close up completely eliminates all the other surroundings in this scene, so we only focus on the character. This scene is particular horrific, this scene involves a very dim lighting. This really emphasis the horror of this particular scene. The boy has no clothing on and there are no props involved.
4 Another medium close up has been used and this shot is also partly a long shot. This has been used, so the audience isn’t distracted by any of the surrounding on the screen, there only drawn to the laptop screen and the characters expression. The director probably wanted the laptop screen to be the main focus because, it’s important for the audience to see this. In this scene the lighting is very dark and the laptop screen is very bright which therefore makes the laptop screen stand out more. Also, the man is wearing very casual clothes and no props apart from the laptop and stationary are present in this scene.
5 This scene is a medium close up the lighting is very dark as it is night time. The darkness of this film is a typical convention of a horror film. This scene is also an over the shoulder shot because the camera is placed behind the young girls shoulder, pointing directly to the possessed young girl and the drawing on the wall. No props have been used in this scene. The young girl in bed is just wearing pyjamas and the possessed girl is wearing a night gown.
6 This shot is a medium long shot. This shot is showing all the possessed children and the evil man. The children are all wearing very casual clothes and have very pale faces, to really emphasise the fact they’re possessed. The medium shot really shows the surroundings of the film and also the characters very clearly. The lighting of this scene is very low lighting this is to show the typical conventions of a horror film.
7 . This scene is very bright lighting which is very different to the typical convention of the film. The camera angle use here is a medium shot, this is to fully show the characters so the audience can see what is all over the child and the man is carrying the girl, like she belongs to him. The man is wearing old classic blazers and the young girl is also wearing a classical night gown.
8 This shot is a close up shot. The lighting is pitch black however, a small light is shining on the box to light the box up, and to see what’s in the box. The darkness is a typical convention of a horror film and therefore represents the horror film very well. Another convention of a horror film is the attic which is where most ‘scary’ things happen in a horror film, the box is placed in the attic to show the conventions of a horror film.
9 This last shot is long shot. This is to clearly show the audience the surroundings of the scene. The lighting is typically dark and there are no lights brighten up the scene. The girls is still in a night dress and the man is still wearing a classical smart blazer.
